Ragnar is getting called a “social justice warrior” I am laffin. Well his opinions do stand out in the gaming industry quite a bit.
And then someone said to him "Can we just play the games?" to which he replies: “No: this is important. And if you haven’t noticed, our games are actually *about* stuff; they’re not ‘just’ games!” {x}
No: this is important. No, we cannot just “play the games” and ignore social injustice. No, this is important.
:’) oh my man I love him so, he’ll never know :’)))

Yeah, Zoë can’t really be categorised as ‘Latina’. Her heritage is decidedly mixed: her father, Gabriel, grew up in England (a walled island kingdom in our fiction) to an Argentinian father and an English mother. And her mother, as we know, has a Chinese (or, more correctly, Hong Kong) background. So there’s a lot of different cultures in that blend.

Zoe Castillo: Europolis

July is typically a slow month in Norway, but that doesn’t mean the entire Red Thread team took time off in the extreme, tropical heat. A lot got done over the summer, and this is just a tiny glimpse at what the team worked on over the past month and a half.
From top left and clockwise, we have the very green Propast Souk (home to roaming CyberChickens, no joke), one of the many bars on Kaprova (catering to every taste), the infamous dream emporium House of Dreams (with Madam Nyx’s face plastered all over the facade) and Zoë’s eye-catching new Europolis hairdo under construction.

The official forums are abuzz with discussions of which actors are returning in Dreamfall Chapters and who has been recast and Ragnar’s replies have been very informative {x}:

No, there wasn’t an entire stretch goal dedicated to bringing back actors: it was part of a stretch goal. And of course we try to bring people back; there’s nothing we want more. We don’t recast any roles to simply screw with our fans or because we’re lazy, but it’s been almost nine (!) years since we recorded Dreamfall and over fifteen (!) years since we recorded TLJ, and there are limits to what we can accomplish given our timelines and budget. Because of the amount of voice acting we have in the game, and because this is the one area where we’re unwilling to compromise on quality, it’s costing a ton of money — more than we’d hoped for — and we have to at least try to be conservative.

Having said that, we’re still trying to get people back. No, Ellie [Conrad Leigh] won’t be part of the cast: she moved to Australia several years ago, she doesn’t act professionally anymore, she recently became a mother, and flying her in for voice sessions would be both unfeasible and incredibly costly. And even if we could somehow pull it off, we’d lose all the flexibility of an actor based in the UK, who’s actually a working actor and is available to us. The actor we’ve cast as Zoë — we will reveal her identity soon — has already been in the studio on five different occasions; there’s no way for us to have all the dialogue ready and to spend two weeks in the studio getting everything recorded. It simply doesn’t work like that, particularly with the episodic structure.

Dreamfall Chapters Kickstarter Update #54

findaprilsaveapril:

In this update, we’re going to talk about a bunch of things…but in case you’re in a rush, here are a few bullets:

  • Chapters is coming to PlayStation 4 first on console! This timed exclusive does not affect the Windows, Mac and Linux releases, and we may consider ports to other consoles in the future, but for the time being the PS4 is our platform of choice.
  • Dreamfall Chapters was at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany last week, and we announced a German localised version — available simultaneously with the English version this autumn — and demoed the game to press.
  • Speaking of Germany, the first episode of Dreamfall will get a German retail release, courtesy of EuroVideo. The DVD box will contain Book One on disc, along with a free download code for the entire season.
  • The team was hard at work over the summer holiday, and we have pictures to prove it!
  • We captured some brand new 4K screenshots from the game, including a look at the new and improved Europolis-Zoë (and hairstyle chosen by our community!).
  • And, finally, we’re announcing a musical competition!
